Dynamic range improvement for some∗ Canon dSLRs by alternating ISO during sensor readout

چکیده

If you are lurking on popular photo forums, you have probably noticed that some people say Nikon/Sony/Pentax/others have more dynamic range than Canon cameras [1, 2, 3]. The difference is visible in extreme lighting conditions when you try to bring shadow detail, the image from Canon dSLRs tends to get a bit noisier (Figure 1). Can we do something about it? YES. It’s all about how you are scanning the sensor.

Design and Construction of a Sensitive Capasitive Sensor System (RESEARCH NOTE)

Design and construction of a capacitor sensor with a precise readout system are described in this paper. A variable air-gap capacitive transducer was constructed and for signalmeasurement a successful attempt was made to exploit the capacitance changes in terms of the phase angle of the detected signal. The reported setup makes it possible to detect capacitance changes of the order of 2.5 fF in...

Physical Limits in Digital Photography

Digital photography has made immense progress over the past 15 years, particularly in increasing resolution and improving low-light performance. But continuing progress in these aspects of performance is not possible, because cameras are now approaching the limits imposed by the basic nature of light. This article looks at the physics that explains these limits. It shows how the fact that light...

HDR Reconstruction for Alternating Gain (ISO) Sensor Readout

Modern image sensors are becoming more and more flexible in the way an image is captured. In this paper, we focus on sensors that allow the per pixel gain to be varied over the sensor and develop a new technique for efficient and accurate reconstruction of high dynamic range (HDR) images based on such input data. Our method estimates the radiant power at each output pixel using a sampling opera...

Closed-Loop Compensation of the Quadrature Error in MEMS Vibratory Gyroscopes

In this paper, a simple but effective method for compensation of the quadrature error in MEMS vibratory gyroscope is provided. The proposed method does not require any change in the sensor structure, or additional circuit in the feedback path. The mathematical relations of the proposed feedback readout system were analyzed and the proposed solution assures good rejection capabilities. Based on ...

A Dynamic Range Enhanced Readout Technique with a Two-Step TDC for High Speed Linear CMOS Image Sensors

This paper presents a dynamic range (DR) enhanced readout technique with a two-step time-to-digital converter (TDC) for high speed linear CMOS image sensors. A multi-capacitor and self-regulated capacitive trans-impedance amplifier (CTIA) structure is employed to extend the dynamic range. The gain of the CTIA is auto adjusted by switching different capacitors to the integration node asynchronou...
